Kemps Hill confident ahead of Glenmuir clash
FIRST-TIME quarter-finalists Kemps Hill are ready for the Glenmuir High School challenge when both Clarendon teams meet tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Glenmuir in their ISSA rural daCosta Cup matchup.
After bouncing back from their 0-4 loss to St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) in their opening round of 16 game -- a match in which two players, including influential goalkeeper Omario Chambers, received red cards -- they responded perfectly in their next two outings. Kemps Hill defeated Old Harbour 3-0 and Ocho Rios 4-2 to finish on six points, placing second behind STETHS to secure their historic quarter-final berth.
Head coach Kiegon Mitchell, who was aggrieved after the STETHS match, is now full of praise for his team and believes they can push even further in the competition.
"The team and the entire community at Kemps Hill is on a high, as this is a historic moment for the school," he said.
The last time they faced Glenmuir, a late strike secured a 1-0 victory for Kemps Hill in the second round, this after losing 3-0 to the same opponents in their preliminary-round meeting at Glenmuir.
Coach Mitchell remains confident of another positive result against their fierce rivals, despite playing at Glenmuir like they did in the preliminary round.
"I know Glenmuir will be coming real hard to avenge that last defeat, but our guys will be up to the task and are hungry for more," he said.
"Glenmuir will not want to lose at this stage to a non-traditional team like us, but with the confidence in the team and being at full strength, we are ready," he said.
