Thompson, McDonald impress at Senior Link Up
Olympic double sprint champion Elaine Thompson was in good form in her first 100 metres of the season as the MVP athlete ran the fastest overall time inside the National Stadium clocking 11.18 seconds to win her heat at the Senior Link Up meet on Saturday.
Thompson won ahead of teammate Christania Williams, 11.27 seconds, and Sprintec's Gayon Evans, 11.49 seconds.
World University Games 100 metres champion Sashalee Forbes recorded the fastest time among all females in the 200 metres. The G.C. Foster College athlete won the half lap event in 23.30 seconds, ahead of Natasha Morrison (Sprintec), 23.86 seconds, with third going to Ronesha McGregor of Racers Track Club in 23.88 seconds.
Quarter-miler Rusheen McDonald, competing in the 100 metres, clocked the fastest time over the distance, winning his heat in 10.44 seconds, just edging out his new MVP Track Club teammate Delano Williams, who ran second in 10.46 seconds. Ramone Bailey representing Eagles Track Club won his heat in 10.57 seconds for third place overall.
McDonald also topped the field in the 400 metres after winning in 46.76 seconds beating Mico University College's Marco Doodnauthsing into second place in 47.03 seconds, with G.C. Foster's Marzel Miller copping third in 47.17 seconds.
Sprintec's Demish Gaye was the best in the 200 metres field after winning his heat in 20.66 seconds, ahead of Kenroy Anderson of Racers, 20.84, with his teammate, Jermaine Brown third in 21.09 seconds.
National discus champion Fedrick Dacres continued his impressive early season form in the event winning with 66.42 metres, ahead of Travis Smikle, 61.68 metres, with Basil Bingham finishing third with 53.85 metres.
