Ganja found in tins of cheese
A Portmore man who was arrested by the Narcotics Police on Saturday, August 4, has been charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
He has been identified as 56-year-old Donovan DaCosta, a vendor and construction worker of Passagefort, St Catherine.
DaCosta is scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday, August 10 and will answer to the charges of possession of ganja, dealing in ganja and taking steps preparatory to export ganja.
Reports are that about noon, DaCosta went to one of the shipping agencies at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, where he attempted to ship a package containing several tins of cheese and baked goods to St Maarten.
During processing, anomalies were discovered and the Narcotics Police were called.
He was arrested when 61 pounds of ganja were found hidden inside 17 of the tins of cheese. The drug has an estimated street value of J$244,000.
